2020. What a year for the Shopping Center Industry.

While we may have to wait and see exactly what marketing for the shopping center industry looks like once the dust settles and the smoke clears, there is no question that the industry has been irrevocably changed by the events of the last 11 months.

For instance, we are seeing larger property management companies, investing back into their retailers, helping them avoid bankruptcy, and securing a tenant.  Retailers are now updating contracts, asking for more parking spaces to allow for additional curb-side pick-up locations.  We are also seeing online retailers like Amazon show interest in adding brick & mortar distribution outlets inside of shopping malls in an effort to get online purchases into the hands of shoppers sooner and more securely.

What other changes could be coming and how what will be the affects to Shopping Center Marketing?

We see a trend towards companies continuing to allow their staff to work from home, allowing their employees to live further from the city centers while the companies themselves downsize their corporate space. With workers having new-found freedom in where they work, where they live, and how or if they commute, how will these changes be reflected in how and where they shop?

Smaller Marketing Teams Doing More with Less

Shopping center marketing teams have been scaled back with some employees being furloughed or laid-off, leaving those that are left standing being asked to do more, with less resources.
